There are two things that you might consider worthwhile if you are taking up Reiki training for the first time, or picking it up again after a bit of a break..

1. Use it.

Reiki needs to be used. Sounds simple. But, getting a daily spiritual practise happening is one of the hardest things you will probably ever do. I used to live in a Buddhist center and was briefly on the center’s organizing committee.. and the joke used to be that even changing a light bulb can be an impossible task.. because when great benefit can come from a task, even a simple one like changing a light bulb, or giving yourself 10 minutes of Reiki everyday, it can be extremely hard to execute. So, a tip.. send Reiki to everything that would be considered an block to your goal of “doing” Reiki everyday. Whether that is no time, or too much time, or laziness, or tiredness, or whatever..

2. Dont quit.

No-one can do it for you. No-one is actually going to support you very much, either. And, if they do.. make sure you recognize the value of that person.

Reiki is about healing.

If you think you are all healed. Then maybe you should be focussing your healing on that mis-conception. This is not meant to be depressing. Because, truthfully, if you give yourself Reiki everyday for 5 years, you will likely be the brightest star in the sky around you.. but, the reality is that many people are not looking for growth, at least not on the surface.. and most people are scared of challenging the status quo, or being challenged themselves by seeing some-one grow (up). Don’t rely, emotionally, on anyone else’s feedback to keep going.. that is not the most stable way to stay with your practise. Develop your own inner guide, and passion.

Reiki is inextricably linked to our will.

You will hear seasoned Reiki therapists say that Reiki is guided by your intention. At first that can be a little mis-leading.. because it sounds like Reiki does what we want it to. That is certainly true, to an extent. I for one have asked for Reiki healing in just about all areas of my life. Work, relationships, health.. but, the trick is understanding what is really meant by “guided by your intention”.

As a Reiki therapist we are the conduit for Reiki healing. If we did not put our hands on the person the process would not happen. So, in that sense we guide Reiki healing.

But, the best Reiki person, in truth, is guided, themselves, by Reiki.

There was a great comment left on the previous post does your state of mind affect Reiki healing, by Kevin. About intention in Reiki versus intention in QiGong. Very interesting.

Basically, the point for Reiki people is that what we are in fact trying to do is let go. We are trying to get out of the way of the energy and just let the healing happen. We are not *doing* the healing, we are moreover witnessing the healing. Being a light observing presence, that is responsive to the process, and hopefully down-to-earth and supportive, just as another human being, to the client.

I said before that having a clear intention, and a strong will (disciplined by meditating on the reiki ideals?), makes for better Reiki healing. This is absolutely true. But, only in the sense that these things more easily allow us to get out of the way.

A secure person, secure in themselves, is generally more content and settled than a discontented soul. If we have refined our intention and make our will strong, then we will much more easily be able to see what is personal stuff, and what is not. What is personal energy (ours and others) and what is Reiki energy. And, we will not lose our identity and our natural style, and therefore be a much more comforting and stable presence for our client.

I have some more tips and thoughts on this stuff, which I will post up next time.

Does your state of mind affect the way you give Reiki?

Does the state of your body affect the way you give Reiki?

What do you think?

source

I will tell you that when you first learn Reiki the absolute best thing your Reiki teacher can tell you is “no”. Because you are probably already worried enough about where your hands go, whether you are doing it right, whether you look silly, perhaps any one of a bunch of different things.

But, the actual truth is that both those things affect the way you give Reiki. And that is just the plain truth. I also invite people to object and put forward counter arguments, that is the best way we can all clarify our understanding of the Reiki path and hopefully deepen our experience of the wisdom that arises from its practise.

Intention is what drives Reiki.

But, what is it that drives intention? Simple, you. And in-particular your own will power. Emphasis being on power. The more stable and clear your intention, the more stable and clear will the energy of Reiki shine through. The most common metaphor is that of a hose. You are the hose. Your junk food and junk thoughts (self sabotage, gossip, negativity, ill-will..) are like dirt in the hose, blocking it up. The cleaner the hose, the easier the water flows.

It has been suggested, by people like Frank Petter, that Usui (the founder of the Reiki healing system) used to re-attune his students as much as every month. As well as get them to recite the Reiki ideals. Both of these things help wash the pebbles out of the hose.

Hopefully, your Reiki teacher gives you unlimited re-attunements as part of the deal with your Reiki 1, 2 or Masters. I would especially hope this is the case for the particular lineage that still thinks $10,000 means something in the whole master training scheme of things. If not, why not sit down with them and have a chat about whether they think re-attunement is something that supports the ongoing process of Reiki, and whether you can come to some kind of arrangement. Assuming ofcourse they think it does help, ongoing.

What are the Reiki Ideals?

Just for today:
1. I will not use anger
2. I will use kindness
3. I will be full of gratitude
4. I will do my work honestly
5. I will not indulge my worrying mind

source (with some poetic license)
