How Do You Know?
How do you know if you should do Reiki 2 if you have done Reiki 1? How do you know if you should do Reiki Masters if you have done Reiki 1 & 2?
Any thoughts?

maybe you just “know” when the time is right
i do think that sufficient time and practise between levels is useful, I think that’s where the “i know I’m ready” feeling comes from.
I found that after finishing a level an event or experience or teacher would appear and I knew that I needed the next level. It became clear.
Lynda
Reiki 1 and 2 I did together so there wasn’t any knowing needed for that.
However for Reiki master it was a vision that coaxed me into it.
@Kevin, 1 & 2 together.. wow! how did you find that? did you get sick or anything (near death experience, lol)? we recommend people have a period of at least 1 month - 3 months between 1 & 2.. but, I know they are given together (sometimes even all 3 together.. 1 & 2 & 3a/3b). but, i have never actually spoken to someone that has done it that way..
@Lynda, thanks for sharing.
@Tim, thanks aswell, I think that way myself.
TC — I was attuned by a teacher with the International Center. They offer 1 and 2 over a weekend course. Teaching and attuning to reiki 1 the first day and then teaching and attuning to reiki 2 the second.
In answer to how it worked? Excellent. I should point out that I was already a practicing Qigong healer when I decided to learn Reiki, so it might be different for other folks.
If you think about the actual attunement for level 1 is really just a partial level 2 attunement. So I think the instruction of methods is much more important, and the folks at reiki.org do put out a very nice workbook for level 1 and 2 practitioners.
After Reiki 2 I waited several years before learning advanced/master. The master session got me a little spacey, but then being re-attuned and practicing attunements and master meditations for a solid weekend should make anyone disconnect with physical reality a bit. Not in a bad way, but in a supreme feeling of bliss and acceptance.
Doing 1 through master together would be quite a trip. I would only recommend this for folks who are already practicing some form of energy healing, I think for anyone else it would be too much changing in their energy system too fast.
Kevin, when you say the international center, is that reiki.org?
I find the disparity between the different methods that people and lineages use, and recommend very interesting. And, I also find it interesting what different people recommend and why. For example, let’s take a look at doing 1 & 2 in the one weekend. If there is no real problem, in terms of over the top clearing symptoms for example, then not only does it make sense, but, it is also probably going to be cheaper for the student to do it that way. Plus, they get all the self healing tools in the one workshop.. rather than rationing them out, and making them come back in 1-3 months.. because, something else I will say, just to cast a critical eye back on my own lineage, is that usually it is recommended that the student comes at least once a week during that 1-3 months, for a 60 minute session. Which, could be argued (cynically) as being revenue raising. And, in fact, I personally believe there is quite a bit of money karma that the Reiki community has to work through, based on the beginings of reiki in the west, with the whole $10k for a masters thing, and the seeming emphasis on money. And, too, with the subsaquent over compensation in the opposite direction with many masters feeling the inspiration to give reiki for free, condemning those that charge.
Let me also say, just to be clear, I know plently of people that do it in a very balanced way. But, I still think there is alot of blind acceptance of the method their teacher uses, which they then adopt, as their teacher did, as so on.
For those that are interested, I have been thinking about a new system for a while, different than the “normal” ways people do it, and which I think is very community orientated.. something many people seem to feel is lacking with their reiki path.
I will post it up as the next article in a week or so..
TC — Yes through reiki.org
Different lineages are just part of the human dynamic. I’m also a martial arts instructor, and the number of times I’ve seen politics get in the way of learning or instruction is amazing. There will always be those who have a serious need to get ego fulfillment that will use whatever tools they have to try to control others.
Thanks Kevin.
Hey, my friend who authors The Daily Mind is very interested in QiGong, Reiki and other energy things, and trained in KungFu seriously.. you might hit it off, and like it over there too.
I am 17 i started reiki at the age of 15 and i did 500 sessions after level 2 so that I KNEW that i was reaky for the change Reiki has both changed and saved my life.
That is awesome Reid. 500 sessions wow!
I don’t think I am going to get to post the little idea mentioned above, so I will just post it quickly here. For those that have asked. Basically, it is just an idea to have like an annual membership to your Reiki center. $100 a year or whatever. Something to cover the tea and power bills. Then schedule regular activities that are completely free for members, swap days where everyone gets a 1 hour treatment and gives a 1 hour treatment, meditation days/nights per week/month, discussion groups to chat about the path and the practise, book reviews/groups to increase education, and finally a certain amount of time with the resident Reiki instructor, be it in terms of actual sessions or just counseling time (if you are qualified to do that).
hello,
I am verysurprised to read that reiki.org offers I and II together. Actually it is simply not possible to actually teach from ’scratch’ Reiki i and II over a week end unless we have in front of you (as a teacher) a bunch of cloned healers… When evolution and change is concerned I am the first inline to be amongst the groundbreakers, however Reiki I and II together is like doing a B.A and a M.A at the same time. It is just not practical and even not recommended. There is an energy field and hence an adjustement to energy work that requires a minimum of 3 months. Learning the symbols and distant healing when one has not yet come to term with self-healing its like putting the wings in front of the plane instead of inthe back. It won’t fly. Unless as I say the person has already been attuned to Reiki, has already been working on energy field. Reiki is a lot about feeling. so unless the perosn is really extra sensorial I rather donot even recommend to do it. Go home dosome practice, see how it works for you and then see how you can realted with the symbols and distant healing.
Mastering reiki is more than just intending to do good to person with hands-on treatments. Its about adjusting to new ways of being. and the symbols are far beyond 2 two-dimensional pictogram. They represent energy. They are quite potent.
I actually doubt Reiki.org offers that type of fast-track. Maybe what they would offer is a fast-track for mastership still it has to be 1 year into Reiki II . As it is the Reiki cake is large and one can cut it into large of tiny chunks, it won’t change the quality and the quantity of energy. However just because it is energy,is invisible and is about healing doesn’t justify a fast-track. I situate myself in the school of thoughts on reiki, at the middle section between western and eastern tradition.
Hello again, I just re-read Kevin comments. Yes if were already on energy work, then maybe yes.
