How Reiki can help you be a better parent.. Part 1, Intention

What makes a person a good parent? Let’s start there..

To me what makes a good parent is pretty simple. It is guided by one primary factor.

The single most powerful energy that determines whether we grow into good parents or good reiki people is our intention/motivation. Intention is energy, don’t mistake it. It is the atmosphere of our mind before we move into thought and action.

I think both in Reiki and as a parent, what characterizes us as “good” Reiki people is 2 things.. as far as intention is concerned.

First, I think “good” Reiki people (by the way.. I would probably never say “good”.. truth be told.. I would normally, I think, choose to use the word “helpful” or “constructive”.. or something like that.. but for arguments sake lets stick with “good”..) need to have an intention that embodies the 5 Reiki ideals. Kind of all squashed into one. This will always be unique to each person, but hold a similar flavor, among people that have deeply contemplated their wisdom.

Personally, I focus most on Kindness. And find the others flow easily from that base. (Plus, His Holiness Dalai Lama is my ultimate hero.. and he always states so simply and beautifully that his religion is just kindness..).

But, because I am a bit tough.. I think the other aspect that is needed is a wish to be a better reiki person. The wish to improve as a Reiki person.

As the saying goes a husband that thinks he is a good husband is not a good husband, and a husband who thinks he is not a good husband is.

Because the first husband is arrogant.

Now, I know this goes a little against our age of assertive empowerment.. but I think we can all understand this in a healthy way.. and see that if we are humble and balanced (energy wise) we do not even begin to think about whether we are “good”.. we have more inner security than that.

But, even more so, because I am tough, I would also say that actually improving is part of being a good parent and being a good reiki person. If you are really trying, you should see improvement. You should see some increase in mental clarity, inner security, happiness, kindness, perception.. something.. other wise you are either just happy with the wishing and wanting, or.. you are not practising correctly.

The great thing about reiki, though, is that you just need to do it. And you will improve.

    Hey Reiki Blogger

I have done my Reiki 1 in Feb and Reiki 2 in July, so still pretty new, but experiencing all sorts. - Some of which are n’t in the book. I don’t look for explanations but would love to find someone who is also “seeing” things you wouldn’t expect. I’m not sure who/what they are, but I’m imagining Spirits / Angels of some time? Does that sound mad?

Reiki 2, for me, was stronger than the “master” attunement.

It is not uncommon for people to experience “seeing” things after Reiki 2. Your sensitivity to non-physical energy is heightened after Reiki 2. (energy you experience with your mind only.. rather than with your mind together with your 5 senses..)

There are lots of different types energy around us, and everyone else, that we do not normally pick up on. Some of it may be other beings.

One of the hard things about non-physical energy is that we tend to project even more strongly than normal. It is very hard to be objective with the experiences around Reiki 2.

What I would say is that every experience is an opportunity for us to deepen our practice of kindness, and the 5 reiki principles. If the energies you experience are positive (to your mind) then practice gratitude.. if they are not, then practice kindness/compassion and patience/non-anger.

Cherish this time on your Reiki path. Keep a journal. And stay connected to your family. Stay down to earth.

    Be well,
    TC

TC, I am curious about a few things. I have received Reiki 1 attunement and planning on Reiki 2 when my master says she thinks I am ready. You mentioned that frequently people gain new insights or are able to see more once the level 2 attunement is performed; can you elaborate more on your personal experiences for us? Will this have an effect one way or another upon my meditation practices?

Hi Matt, thanks for the comment. i am always a little reluctant to talk too much, about individual experiences because i would hate people to think there is a “right” way. everyone is different. some people cry when they clear (i am a crier..) some people laugh, some people go quiet, some people get sick, some people do all of the above..
but, it is also helpful to read about other people’s stuff, and find things you identify with, which can help you feel less alone, or more connected to your path.. and seeing as you asked, i will try and post up something.
