Does Qi Gong help your Reiki?
This is something I have been pondering for some time now. And, by the way, by “qi gong” I just mean anything that has to do with internal energy training. So, I am hoping you will not mind me considering Tai Chi and Kung Fu as forms of qi gong for the purpose of this post (if anyone has any alternative or complimentary views please email me or leave a comment).
WHAT AFFECTS YOUR REIKI?
Or what affects your ability to give reiki? I think this is at the heart of the question.. and something we have talked about a little in related posts:
reiki training tips
reiki healing, training tips
reiki training, daily meditation
reiki training, 5 tips
We need to consider this from two points of view. What affects your motivation to practise or give reiki.. and what affects the quality of the reiki you give when you do practise it or give it.
Lets look at the second point first..
WHAT AFFECTS THE QUALITY OF THE REIKI YOU GIVE
This is a topic of much hoola-bal-loo in reiki circles.. and is considered sacred ground by many people.. so I really encourage to get your emotions working and agree or disagree with me here..
Alot of people suggest that reiki is an empowerment system. You are given an attunement and then you can give reiki. Frank Petter (one of the people I consider as my reiki teacher, although I have only ever talked with him via email) talks about this in The Spirit of Reiki (Shangri-La Series) and shows it to be one of the pillars of the reiki system.
A common arguement that people who disagree that reiki just works after you get an attunement is smoking. Alot of reiki people I know strongly believe that smoking inhibits the practise of reiki. Which, would suggest that there are other factors that affect the quality of the reiki you give. not just whether you have received an attunement or not (here is a question for you.. do you personally believe you can give reiki without an attunement?)
Actually, I believe the clearest answer here is a little of both. Or perhaps better to say a combination of both. Lets say you can give 0% reiki before an attunement. I believe that after the workshop you will give 80% of the reiki you are able to give (in quanitity and quality). Then from there if you keep practising daily, doing meditation, and qi gong training (like tai chi) which is designed to strengthen your internal energy (nothing to do with reiki) and keep your energy channels clear (something to do with reiki) along with keeping a healthy lifestyle (which in theory keeps your channels clearer than a not very healthy lifestyle) you will add the other 20% (or reduce the 80% if you do the opposite).
MOTIVATION
The second point was what affects your motivation to practise or give reiki? This is perhaps a little less debateable.
Qi Gong exercises, because they aim to strengthen your internal/personal energy (chi/ki) will 100% help your motivation to practise and give reiki.
For the same reasons that a healthy lifestyle will help keep your mind happy and clear.. chi kung will produce a mental landscape that supports spiritual practise and training.
A SIDE NOTE
The quality of the reiki that you give is not just about the quality of the energy you channel. It is also about the level to which you have developed you meditation (ability to stay objective in this context), concentration/focus, and intuition. All these factors are not only interrelated, each affecting the other, but they also affect the level to which you will be able to support the healing process consciously. Especially if you are treating another person.
The clearer your mind and the greater your ability to focus, the more you will be able to follow your intuition during the treatment, and the more you will be able to pick up on how the person receiving the treatment is feeling (and being able to adjust how you do the treatment as a result.. for example if they are feeling very dis-connected from their body or naseau then spending more time giving reiki to their feet is a good idea)
CONCLUSION
Chi Kung training like tai chi can help you give better reiki treatments and maintain your motivation to practice reiki. There remains conjecture in the reiki community as to whether reiki quality or quantity can be increased through other methods than empowerment. Perhaps you have a thought?
Best wishes,
TC

Great post!
Good detail.
I will attest to the fact that lifestyle habits degenerate your ability to use and flow chi in your body for harmful purposes (kung fu) so I assume it is the same for reiki.

Hi TC,
I definitely believe chi kung will help your flow of energy for reiki.
The chi kung I practice really clears the energy pathways throughout the body. I notice my energy flow increasing significantly the more I practice it.
Tai chi and kung fu practiced in the right way are likely to increase your energy flow too, I believe. But chi kung, where you are much more focussed specifically on the energy flow, I believe would be more effective.
I practice a form called primordial chi kung or chi kung for enlightenment. It’s a beautiful form with so much depth to it. It works on grounding, the heart and connection to spirit. All very directly. There’s a good article on it if you’re interested.
