History of reiki

When I was first studying reiki level 1, I was told a story about a buddhist monk in japan named Mikao Usui. Inspired by the healing powers of Jesus he went and studied in USA and received a PhD in Theology. Still frustrated that he had not uncovered the secret healing power of chirst he returned to Japan and went on a pilgrimage. During his travels he met a wise Abbot of a temple who told him to complete a traditional fasting retreat on a sacred mountain peak. Where he received in a vision the reiki healing system.

I really liked that story.

And, it is the common western reiki lineage story. But, it is not really a very accurate reflection of the origin of reiki healing.

I do not really have a problem with the fact that this taught to alot of people and is at best metaphorical, but what I do think is not very good is when either people do not invest the small amount of effort needed to research accurate details about reiki’s history for their prospective students.. or when ”masters” do not give their students at least some indication this might not be exactly a historical account of reiki healing’s origins.

Spiritual stuff is alot about trust (particularily any teacher-student relationship), faith/confidence and knowledge/conviction.

If your path and practice are not founded in sound reasoning and well thought out inner convictions, you can be easily swayed. And you will lack inner security, which produces negative judgement. Crisis of faith lashing out. And can lead to unnecessary critism.. hurting teacher-student relationships and also potentially taking someone away from a practise (is this context reiki healing) that could bring so much contentment and meaning into their life.

Phew! a bit deep.. haha.

So.

With the view of rewarding you our loyal reikiblogger readers with the more accurate (so far..) history of reiki we happily refer you here and here.
